Few builders can offer the range of fine woodworking skills that Dan Englund brings to each home and commercial building project.
Dan's training as a finish carpenter and builder began as a teenager in 1978, and he has since continued to expand his range of abilities, building custom staircases, doors, windows, furniture, and, of course, homes and commercial buildings. Dan is pleased to make himself available for select projects throughout the Colorado and New Mexico area. |
| 1978-80 |
Dan's training began as an apprentice with both J.C. Brothers, and Siefert & Sons, building custom homes in the Glen Ellyn, IL area. Working under highly skilled carpenters, he learned framing, siding, fascia, and soffit construction. |
| 1980-84 |
Joined the carpenters' union and completed his 4 year union apprenticeship program while framing for union contractor R.D. Thiel, also in Glen Ellyn, IL. During this time, he began learning to run his own crews. |
| 1984-85 |
Worked as a foreman, running crews of up to 40 carpenters, for Lenny Zsarik Construction, another union contractor. |
| 1985-89 |
Worked for Cooper Stair, learning the intricacies of staircase design and construction, including circular and curved staircases. |
| 1989-99 |
Started his own custom stair building company, Step by Step Stair & Millwork, in Woodstock, IL. Handled all design work and sales, and oversaw design, production and installation of about 150 staircases per year. The company specialized in custom circular staircases, using a wide variety of woods. Dans design skills were much in demand by builders, as he began to design whole foyers to accompany his unique staircases. |
| 1999-present |
Dan and his wife Anne moved from Illinois to Colorado, where Dan has continued to do custom building and remodeling, including architectural finish carpentry including high-quality custom doors and staircases. He has also expanded into custom log work, including log stairs and railings, porches, and roof construction. He has also begun serving his clients as general contractor on select projects. |
